2023 SCHEDULE/RULES

[personal profile] wish_upon_a_meme is a relaxed December gifting event modeled on prompt memes and the dearly departed LJ comm [livejournal.com profile] insmallpackages. Here you can request not just fanworks for your fandoms, but book and music recs, holiday greetings, personal anecdotes, pics of people's flowers/cats/holiday decor… whatever you can think of that could go in a comment, you can request here!

SCHEDULE:
  • Dec 1 to Dec 31: Requests may be posted. Please do not post requests after this date.
  • Dec 1 to Jan 14: Fills may be posted.

HOW IT WORKS:
  • Post your requests ANONYMOUSLY in the comments to this post. You can do that by posting while logged out or by hitting the "more options" button in the reply window.
  • Requests can be for: fic, art, other fanworks, fic recs, recs for books/movies/music, meta, recipes, holiday greetings, personal anecdotes or photos, or whatever you can think of that someone could fill or link to in a comment.
  • We ask that you make between 1-10 requests. Since requests are made anonymously, this is on the honor system.
  • Find people’s requests to fill! You can fill requests anonymously or logged in. Fills may be posted here, or they may be posted elsewhere and linked in your comment. Fills must be publicly accessible, ie not on a locked journal, a tumblr that requires logging in to view, etc.
  • More than one person can fill the same request.
  • Please say thank you when someone fills one of your requests! You can reply anonymously or logged in. You may want to bookmark your requests so you can check later, or if you have a paid DW account you can use the tracking feature to get notifications.
  • This account is paid through January, so logged-in DW users can search comments in it. If someone would like to make a spreadsheet to keep track of requests, please let us know, and we'll add a link to this post!

Holiday side dishes

(Anonymous) 2023-12-02 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
I would love some recipes for savory holiday side dishes, especially ones involving vegetables or ones without a lot of prep. No food allergies or special dietary needs to be concerned about. USian measuring units preferred, but I can convert.

[personal profile] ranalore 2023-12-02 05:59 am (UTC)(link)
The most beloved holiday side dish in my household is the height of simplicity, and doesn't take long, either. It's roasted brussels sprouts. Heat your oven to 425F, wash and halve a pound of brussels sprouts, then throw them in a plastic bag with a few tablespoons of olive oil and kosher salt and ground black pepper to taste. Shake the bag well to distribute the oil and seasonings, then lay the brussels sprouts cut side down on a cookie sheet big enough that you can spread them out so none of them are touching.

Put them in the oven on the middle rack for 17 to 25 minutes. You want a nice, dark brown, nearly black, and you don't want to move or flip them in order to achieve that caramelization. They'll end up beautifully crispy on the outside, almost creamy on the inside, with a nutty, sweetly green taste that's addictive.

They don't reheat well, but they're dead easy, so even as a spoonie, I can whip up a fresh batch to go with holiday leftovers.

I hope this is something close to what you were asking for!

I would like some vintage airplane icons, please, in DW-compatible sizes! I prefer earlier than the 1980s, any previous style or era except WW2 military planes. I would especially like one of a float plane or amphibious plane, or something to do with early Arctic aviation and bush flying.

(Anonymous) 2023-12-02 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
Captain Marvel - Minn-Erva or/and Yon-Rogg, some kind of whump or hurt/comfort fic. I ship Yon-Rogg with Carol and Minn-Erva with Carol, Valkyrie, or Nebula, or gen is also welcome. I like all the Captain Marvel characters, and I think any of them would be fun to see interact with Minn-Erva or Yon-Rogg.

Mocktail Recipes

(Anonymous) 2023-12-02 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
I'd love some mocktail recipes. Alcohol additions options are fine, but I'd prefer recipes designed to be a mocktail. Sweet or savory. No floral flavor profiles, preferably. No allergies to be consider.

The podcast This Podcast Will Kill you has a mocktail recipe for every episode they put out, and I've never had a bad one: https://thispodcastwillkillyou.com/placeboritas/

One of my favorites is the Littlest Dragon:
-1/2 oz lemon juice
-2 oz pineapple juice
-3/4 oz cream of coconut
-3/4 oz blue Hawaiian punch (or I substitute nonalcoholic blue curacao)

Shake with ice and strain. Garnish with a gummy worm.

I would love a ficlet for Suspiria (2018)! Anything with worldbuilding (cosmic horrors! witchy politics!) or psychological stuff or fucked up femslash. Post-canon Susie/Madame Blanc would be super neat.

I would love recs for either canons or fics that have to do with building places and areas, whether small (character builds a home/homestead), medium (village/town) or large (kingdom/planet building).

I prefer complete/finished canons/fics, thank you!

Historical Detective books

(Anonymous) 2023-12-02 02:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I would like recs for historical detective books set in either the Roman or Tudor eras that don't have lots of romance in them. I've read Steven Saylor, Lindsey Davis, Ruth Downie, Rosemary Rowe, Graham Brack (Roman era) and C J Sansom (Tudor era), and are looking for more (though not S J Parris, sorry).

YT recs

(Anonymous) 2023-12-02 02:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I would like recs for YouTube channels that you follow/enjoy where a professional takes clips from TV shows/movies and points out (preferably with humour) the errors that have been made. The only one I follow atm in that category is Fire Department Chronicles, and he hasn't done a good poke at TV/movie one for a while (though I do like his other vids).

Re: YT recs

(Anonymous) 2023-12-03 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
These are all channels that have other styles of video on them but have at least one series where they discuss their relevant field in the media!
- Mama Doctor Jones is a obstetrician-gynecologist who discusses pregnancies and births as portrayed in media. She also has a series reviewing the TLC show "I Didn't Know I Was Pregnant", and isn't exactly nitpicking things that are "wrong" but is providing education with that as the framework.
- Doctor Mike is a doctor (shocker) who, like Mama Doctor Jones, reviews medical scenes in film. He does more general scenes than Mama Doctor Jones.
- LegalEagle is a lawyer who discusses both the portrayal of courtroom scenes and general legal snafus in media. He has a friend guest star who has a lot of knowledge about military law and together they've covered quite a bit of lawyer-dom in movies/television. He's also done some collaborations with Doctor Mike where they each review media through their specific lens!
- Cinema Therapy is a therapist and a filmmaker duo who discuss therapy in cinema. Not quite pointing out errors made so much as discussing the film through the lens of therapy, but thought it was adjacent enough to be worth a mention!

I would like recs for YouTube channels that you follow/enjoy to do with history, more the life of the people in that era, what they wore, ate etc, not so much about warfare. I follow History Hit, but that does seem very war orientated at times!

Bernadette Banner: focuses on historical fashion, including the making of historical garments and critiquing the supposedly-historical fashion shown in period dramas. The occasional guinea pig makes an appearance in her videos.

Asta Darling: I primarily watch her shorts, which are historical Get Ready With Me videos.

I would like recs for YouTube channels that you follow/enjoy to do with wild animals, not arachnids or ants, and I definitely have a preference for wild felines/canines, but I'm happy to try other animal-related ones. I follow The Lion Whisperer, Dolph C. Volker (The Cheetah Whisperer) and Zoo Borns atm.

I would like recs for YouTube channels that you follow/enjoy to do with farming - sustainable/small farms preferred, but will consider anything. The only one I follow atm is Gold Shaw Farm.

Dune (2021) fanart

(Anonymous) 2023-12-02 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
The new Dune movie is so gorgeous, it feels like every shot was designed to be a promo still. I would love original art for it. I love all kinds of traditional media, and digital is also great. For characters I'm especially fond of Jessica, Paul, and Liet Kynes, in any combo, but I'd also be really happy with art of any of the settings or objects in the movie. I would be happy with your personal artistic interpretation of ANY of the visuals.

Podfic with background ambience

(Anonymous) 2023-12-02 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd love a podfic with background ambient sounds throughout or as a listening option in addition to the normal recording. I prefer the sound of rain or storms, waves, and ambient noise that fits the canon, such as ship engine noise for Star Trek or wind for The Terror. Anything for these fandoms would be adored: Our Flag Means Death, Star Trek (TNG), Star Wars (Original Trilogy), Loki, The Terror, and Night at the Museum. Any pairing(s) or rating welcome!

One-dish Recipes!

(Anonymous) 2023-12-02 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Trying to eat healthier, but I'm a terrible cook, so I'd appreciate any quick and simple recipes that don't require much skill. I'd especially love some one-dish recipes, like casseroles, stews, pot roasts, etc. Nothing spicy or with too many spices, as I have a very sensitive stomach. Beyond that, I'm open to pretty much anything. Some foods I love are potatoes, pasta, rice, beef, green beans, and broccoli.

Re: One-dish Recipes!

(Anonymous) 2023-12-03 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
My standard recommendation here:

Rice (or pasta) + protein + fruit or vegetable + (optional) sauce is endlessly variable and I never get tired of it! Make the rice in advance and put in the fridge, or use instant or takeout, and then dump the toppings over it with a few tablespoons of water and microwave covered 3 minutes or so one serving at a time.

My favorites are

peanut butter + peanuts + shredded or finely sliced carrots. You can add some milk or some pre-bottled sweet & sour sauce or orange sauce if you want the sauce thinner.

tunafish + frozen broccoli + shredded cheese or cheese sauce

canned chicken or frozen chicken nuggets + canned fruit cocktail or Mandarin oranges (use the juice from the can instead of water) + soy sauce

Fresh tomatoes + mozzarella cheese + vinaigrette or sweet pickle juice (cold, over warm rice!)

thinly-sliced summer squash + lots of parmesan cheese

TV Show Rec: High Fantasy Sitcom

(Anonymous) 2023-12-02 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Ever since I saw someone make a video edit (https://youtu.be/_FG9TBZhrUU) of Baldur's Gate III with the F.R.I.E.N.D.S. theme song, I have been longing for a high fantasy sitcom show. Does anything along these lines exist? I'm cool with both animated and live-action.

Recommendations of (preferably cozy) mysteries

(Anonymous) 2023-12-03 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
I'd like recommendations of (preferably cozy) mysteries that fulfill the following criteria:

Medias: Books, fanfictions, games, movies, TV series

DNWs (Do Not Wants):

  • NSFW content

  • incest, though I do not consider the "flirty stepsiblings" trope as incest

  • Zoophilia, Bestiality

  • Adult/Minor relationships

  • May-December romance

  • Cheating, Infidelity

  • Fantasy, supernatural, paranormal, occultism

  • Antropomorphism. Just to be clear: Animals/Pets are welcome as long as they are not a case of antropomorphism.

  • Sad endings

  • Whump

  • Cussing, swearing, profanity

  • Unwanted pregancy or medical problems related to pregnancy. But, just to be clear, pregnancy is okay, just not unwanted pregancy

  • Drug addiction, Drug use

General likes (bonus points that are NOT requiments): Christmas fluff, cute pets, Defrosting the ice queen (or the ice king)

Re: Recommendations of (preferably cozy) mysteries

(Anonymous) 2023-12-03 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
For cozy mysteries, I highly recommend the Aurora Teagarden movie series. I think there are about twenty made-for-TV movies total in the series. They're very fun with good mystery plots, but also kept very family-friendly/wholesome. Not too gory with the murder scenes and I don't remember there being any NSFW plotlines, at least in the ones I watched. The later movies, from #9 onward are especially good.

Recs for classic or old books featuring male friendship or female friendships

(Anonymous) 2023-12-03 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
I would love recs for books featuring strong friendships, either male-male or female-female. Classic/older stuff much preferred: something like the Anne of Green Gables books would be perfect! Thank
you! ♥

Re: Recs for classic or old books featuring male friendship or female friendships

(Anonymous) 2023-12-14 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
Have you encountered Robert Louis Stevenson’s Kidnapped!? It’s a late 19th century adventure book (set in the 18th century) whose central character relationship is a growing friendship between two very different men.

(If you enjoy that, you might also enjoy Sir Walter Scott’s Redgauntlet which has a similar setting and is centered around the parallel, connected adventures of two best friends, young men who have grown up together and are taking on the world for the first time. One deals with first love and his supportive but demanding father, while the other looks for his long-lost family and finds a political conspiracy. It’s told mostly through their letters to each other. It’s an older writing style than the example you mentioned - early 19th century, think Jane Austen - so it takes some getting into, but the friendships are extremely juicy.)

I’m having a harder time thinking of classic fiction focused on women’s friendships that isn’t actually about families (would you be interested in novels about sisters, by any chance?). But even though it is more recent, I’m going to go out on a limb and recommend Connie Willis’ duology Blackout/All Clear, because it has very much the feel of an older work - it is mainly set in the 1940s (the characters are time travellers, but the story is much more historical than sci-fi) and is deeply soaked in the mood and style of the era - and because the central female friendship is SO dear to me. Polly and Eileen are stranded time travellers trying to survive in WWII England, and they rely on each other so closely and each has qualities that the other needs, and they become really close over the course of the two books.

I will come back if I can think of any more, especially about female friendships!

Recs for Exes-to-Lovers

(Anonymous) 2023-12-03 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
Exes-to-lovers is one of my favorite tropes! Would love recommendations for original fiction (short stories, novellas, graphic novels, novels) or fanfiction that fit the trope.

Would prefer if one person wasn't "wrong" in the original break-up, but that's a soft line and not a hard one. For fanfic, I would prefer if the couple were actually exes at some point in canon (if they're exes who stay exes in canon that's great, but if they're two people who are together and never broke up written as having broken up in an AU, not so great).

Thanks in advance!

Re: Recs for Exes-to-Lovers

(Anonymous) 2023-12-13 11:48 am (UTC)(link)
I think Emily Tesh's Greenhollow Duology might loosely fit this, if you haven't read it? (The second novella, specifically!)
